Water Treatment Chemicals
Waterways FZC specialises in water treatment chemicals. The knowledge and expertise is drawn not only from its shareholders with decades of experience I this field, also its partners and associates with experience in both municipal as well as industrial settings. Waterways trading experts can help you significantly improve the efficiency of boilers, cooling towers, membranes and conventional water treatment equipment.
Waterways pillars are quality, integrity, service, safety and compliance.
Our aim is to minimise chemical consumption and saving money while supporting reduced environmental impact.
Our water treatment chemical range has been especially formulated to help you optimise the operation of water treatment plant and equipment.
BOILER FEED APPLICATIONS
The primary objectives in boiler design, operation and effective treatment include: efficiency in heat transfer, minimisation of energy usage, production of pure steam and safe, reliable operation. Common problems in steam-raising plants are scale formation and corrosion which lead to efficiency losses and reduced plant life.
OXYGEN SCAVENGERS
A major cause of corrosion in boilers is dissolved oxygen, particularly in conjunction with low pH (low alkalinity) although excessive alkalinity can also be a factor. Chemical oxygen scavengers are used to eliminate oxygen from the feed water. The main types of oxygen scavengers are sulphite based, but tannins and carbohydrazide are also available if required.
ANTISCALENTS
Scale results from the formation of insoluble calcium and magnesium salts and is seen as a rock like coating on the inside of boiler tubes. A conditioner is required which will react with any residual hardness present in the incoming feed water, and prevent precipitation of scale onto the boiler surface. Phosphate, polymers and chelant treatments are typically used. Sludge conditioners tend to be organic polymers and help to prevent the adherence of suspended solids onto heat transfer surfaces. The polymers combine with precipitates and the resultant electrical charge on the particle surface enables the particles to be dispersed so that they may be removed by blow-down.
CLOSED CIRCUIT BIOCIDES
The main problematic micro-organisms found in closed circuit systems are bacteria, which can lead to the rapid build-up of biofilms in pipework and on heat exchanger surfaces causing reduction in efficiency, flow restrictions and under deposit corrosion.
It is much easier and more cost effective to maintain microbiological control within a closed-circuit system than to clean up a heavy build-up of biofilm.
The problems encountered in closed circuit systems are like those in open systems – corrosion, suspended solids, scale, and microbiological contamination.
WW has a full range of scale and corrosion inhibitors, pre-commission cleaners, system flush chemicals, and biocides for use in closed circuit heating and chilled systems. This range also contains many specialist products formulated for use in specific specialist or problematic situations.
WATER TREATMENT APPLICATIONS
RO Desalination Plants
WW supplies specialty chemicals for Reverse Osmosis (RO) desalination plants. These include:
- Anti-scalants
- RO Cleaning Chemicals
- Biocides
- Fluorosilicic Acid (FSA)
- Sodium Fluoride
- Flocculants
- Citric Acid
- EDTA
Our Anti-scalants are highly effective preventing scaling from calcium carbonate; calcium fluoride; calcium phosphate and sulphate. Some formulations are prepared to be highly effective at preventing the formation of inorganic scale, thereby reducing the frequency of membrane cleaning and replacement. These anti-scalants allow systems to be designed and operated at their optimum rate of recovery.
Our membrane cleaning chemicals help to remove organic and inorganic deposits and are very effective in the removal of iron deposits. oil and many other organic and biological compounds. Rapidly removes particulate foulants.
For use in desalination plants, for both on-line (non-potable systems only) and off-line to eliminate and control microbiological fouling, WW offers various fast acting biocides at economical prices.
Conventional treatment plants
For conventional water and wastewater treatment plants, WW offers several chemicals to help optimise these processes. These include flocculants, polymers, disinfection chemicals, and sludge conditioning chemicals.
Industrial effluent treatment plants
WW’s experts understand the complex chemical requirements of industrial wastewater treatment and has technical resources dedicated to support the needs of our customers operating in this area. We are committed to innovation in the solutions and technology we supply, and to providing the highest level of service to our customers. To support this ethos we have a broad range of chemistry solutions designed specifically for use in industrial wastewater treatment including pH adjustment, coagulants, flocculants, anti-foam agents, and odour control solutions.
CHLORINE DIOXIDE
Chlorine dioxide is an excellent broad-spectrum oxidising biocide which is It is effective at low concentrations and is used in a large number of applications including water disinfection. It has more than 2.5 times the oxidising capability of chlorine and requires a lower contact time. Chlorine dioxide is effective in alkaline conditions (pH <10) whereas biocide such as sodium hypochlorite lose activity quickly as the pH rises and are not suitable for use at pH >8. One of the main advantages of using chlorine dioxide is that, unlike most other biocides, it is able to destroy biofilm.
Chlorine dioxide does not generally react with other water treatment chemicals or with nitrogen compounds including ammonia and naturally occurring organic materials such as organic acids.
WW supplies food grade quality liquid CO2 in bulk tankers at competitive rates.
